11/9/2022 0 Comments Hp laserjet 1100 usb cable![]() ![]() I need to have it set to the correct driver. However, if I go the CUPS web interface and hit manage printers the driver is listed as the following: Now the problem is that I can not add my printer via the system-config-printer. This is an ugly workaround which works if you have only one printer (the one with the adapter cable) on USB. That you cannot print at all is a bug of the "hal" CUPS backend. In general you have to run system-config-printer and manually choose manufacturer and model. Therefore system-config-printer and hal-cups-utils automatically assign the text-only printer to the unknown device. The device is recognized as printer, but there is no information about manufacturer and model. Your USB-to-parallel adapter does not pass through the printer ID. I hit OK and attempted to readd it without the space and now the option for HP Printer is no longer available and additionally there is now a noticable hang / lag when I click Add Printer before the options show up. CUPS spit out an error saying that spaces in printer names were not allowed. I tried to do that but I put a space in the name of my printer. I was thinking perhaps if I added it manually with the DeviceURI under that it would work. Select a method to identify the printer model (if prompted), and then follow the instructions to download HP LaserJet 1100 Driver. now the two options under Add Printer HP Printer and HP Scanner are no longer available under Local Printers. Disconnect the cable from your printer (if connected to the computer with a USB cable) Download HP LaserJet 1100 Driver and Software from HP Support Downloads. I have tried using Bus and Device ID from lsusb to manually add it in hp-setup and that does not work either.ĮDIT: Weird. I have tried to setup the printer using hp-setup it does not detect my printer. The dialog is no longer greyed out and the printer is listed as Idle under the CUPS manage printer interface but however if try and print the printer just spits out blank pages after blank pages until I go into the CUPS manage job interface and cancel the job manually. Info LaserJet-1100-CUPS+Gutenprint-v5.2.4 # Printer configuration file for CUPS v1.4.0 Unplugging and repluggin my printer gives me this msg in dmesg: If you have any other questions for me please shoot I have my printer hooked up via a mini parralel to USB cord. dmesg does output that it is detecting my printer. ![]() I have tried all the steps on the wiki and I can't seem to figure this one out. Funny thing is I just now remember I had a similiar issue a few months back and I remembered now I fixed the queue issue just by unplugging the power to my printer and leaving it off for 5min then replugging it in. Well I tried to to that and got stuck on trying to re-add it. I did some googling and someone mention to remove the printer and re-add it. However, printing jobs would just stay in the queue and never print. At first when I moved my printer downstairs the CUPS web interface had my previous setup still there and had my printer detected / added. however now I can't get CUPS to detect or add my printer. I had it working perfectly a few weeks ago before the move. after a few weeks I decided to move my printer down and set it up. When was the last time anyone saw a mouse, for instance, that was anything other than PS/2 or USB? Virtually everything is going USB, and that is reflected in the new mainboards, like these new ASUS boards, that support three root hubs out the back of the machine, and 2 or 3 root hubs on the mainboard for connection to an ever increasing number of supported front panel USB case slots.īottom line is that we have to be able to support the Laserjet on USB, and it would be nice if we could fix the port so that it does not float every time power is cycled to the machine or printer.I moved my computer downstairs. External modems are about the only thing that I can think of that would require a serial connection now. Most modern mainboards only support one serial port anymore, and I am not even sure why. I am waiting for standard serial ports to go away. The problem is, as always, peripherals that are still functional, and are based upon the standards that are being discontinued. As a system builder, I am seeing a lot more motherboards, especially the MATX form factor boards, that are moving forward, and doing away with what are antiquated standards. This is going to be the wave of the future. The system has a 500 GB Level 1 RAID subsystem, and the Promise RAID controller occupies the only PCI slot that is available. ![]() The problem is that this is one of the new MATX ASUS mainboards that supports no parallel port, and only one PCI slot, but has three PCIe Type 1 slots, and one PCIe Type 16 slot for a video card. ![]()
